Former Umno man Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak, who has applied for membership in PKR, has not been officially made a member in the party, said PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“This is an ongoing process. We will hear all sides’ views.

“If Sabah PKR agrees, they will let us know the decision. We have to meet first. We have not yet decided,” he told reporters.

He was responding to news from The Malaysian Insight that Salleh, who is from Sabah, has already been officially accepted as a PKR member.

When asked if PKR Sabah has accepted the membership application, Anwar said the application has to be brought to the central leadership for approval to be made official.

“The meeting to decide has not happened yet,” he said.

The Malaysian Insight today reported sources as saying the PKR political bureau accepted Salleh’s membership application on October 18, and that the only thing pending is an official announcement on the matter.

Salleh’s membership could be made known as early as tomorrow, at the Sabah PKR congress in Kota Kinabalu.

State PKR chairman Christina Liew last Friday said Salleh would be welcomed into the party should he forgo his “Umno principles”.

Salleh, who used to be a loyalist of former prime minister Najib Razak, in August applied online to join PKR.
