Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor is the rightful Barisan Nasional secretary-general, confirmed Mohamad Hasan today.
The BN acting chairman said Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz’s appointment was never endorsed by the coalition’s supreme council, thus, it was never formalised.
“Tengku Adnan remains the secretary-general. He never quit and was never removed.
“Nazri’s appointment was not wrong, but it was never endorsed by the supreme council,” he told a press conference after a meeting of the council.
Nazri was announced as BN secretary-general by coalition chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi at the MIC general assembly last year.
MCA and MIC have argued that his appointment is not valid, as it was neither discussed nor endorsed by the BN supreme council.
They had threatened to not attend today’s meeting should Nazri be present, after the parties took offence of racist remarks he made during the Semenyih by-election campaign.
The Padang Rengas MP then said he will not attend as he does not want to be a stumbling block to the meeting.
Nazri is currently under probe for sedition over his remarks.
Mohamad said that Tengku Adnan has agreed to continue to be the secretary-general until he decides to resign or when he is replaced.
