Former 1MDB president and chief executive officer Arul Kanda Kandasamy was questioned by police on Wednesday and Thursday.

Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) chief Comm Datuk Seri Amar Singh confirmed that he was called in for questioning but did not divulge any further details.

Malaysiakini reported that Arul was questioned over his 1MDB roadshows in the lead up to the 14th General Election.

“Police were thoroughly checking the facts that he had mentioned during his public talks to explain about 1MDB prior to the 14th general election,” the source was quoted saying.

Prior to the election, Arul had toured nationwide to counter what he claimed was misinformation regarding 1MDB perpetuated by then Opposition coalition, Pakatan Harapan.

Arul, who was appointed to head 1MDB in 2015, was sacked in June.
