Police have received a report from CyberSecurity Malaysia on the identity of the two men in the sex video said to implicate a federal minister.

  • Police will leave it to the court to reveal the identity of the men in the viral sex video
  • IGP says sex tape affair wasting cops’ time, not ruling out influential figures behind sex clips
  • Anwar says public wants to know if sex video is genuine and who is behind it

Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Huzir Mohamed said they had received the report but did not reveal its contents.

“We are going to discuss the matter with the Attorney Generals Chambers.

“It is for the courts to decide who is captured in the video,” he told reporters.

The police will leave it to the court to reveal the identity of the men in the viral sex video.

“We will make new arrests if needed.

“We will also investigate claims that the six men detained had turned a location into their headquarters to discuss and disseminate the sex videos,” he said.

Earlier, Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador said that the sex video issue targeting Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali is “not good” for the country’s development.

Speaking to reporters after an event, Hamid said the country had been bombarded with stories about the issue since Ramadan, to the point that even children were asking about it.

“At the same time, the police are burdened with our mission to clean our own house and the city’s streets of crime, but then our attention and resources are diverted to issues which shouldn’t arise in the first place.”

As the issue had come up, though, the police had to investigate, he added.

“If there was none then it would be good. We could focus on matters which are more important to the nation’s development.”

Hamid said the investigation is ongoing and that the police are looking at all aspects.

When asked on the possibility that the five others arrested with Haziq Aziz were connected to a state assemblyman, the IGP said police were investigating the angle.

“We are investigating that possibility along with other aspects.

“We will explore all angles, including the mastermind behind the recording and spread of the video,” he said.

According to the IGP, the police were taking their time in thoroughly investigating the case to ensure that justice was served and no innocents were punished.

“We have sent the investigation papers a few times to the Attorney General’s Chambers but they have sent it back with instructions to investigate further and collect more evidence.

“This is a complicated case as it involves elected representatives and politicians, so allow us time to properly investigate it,” he said.

He added that more arrests may be made for the case if needed.

“Such a case is complicated as it involves politicians and such. So we are careful as we do not want to be careless and make rash decisions.

“So whatever action to be taken will be in accordance to standard operating procedures, and we will also communicate with the Attorney-General’s Chambers for feedback,” Hamid said.

Police did not rule out the possibility that someone with influence was behind the sex videos implicating a minister.

Hamid said this when asked if there was a conspiracy behind the sex videos and if those arrested so far were taking orders from someone in position.

“Yes, maybe. We are looking into that angle, too,” Hamid said.

The IGP, however, was not pleased that his men were now burdened with this case, saying there are other crimes to fight as well.

“Our main focus right now is to solve this case.

“We should be focusing on crime, drugs and others, but my men are burdened by this video.

“It’s a pity that we have to look at this, something filthy, but what can we do?”

Meanwhile, PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Malaysians are curious about whether the sex video is genuine.

According to Anwar, the people also want to know who was behind the dissemination of the video.

“The investigations are under the purview of the police. There are two phases: is the video genuine, and who was the one who spread it.

Ahmad Zamzahuri

“The people want to know these two aspects,” he told a press conference in Parliament on Tuesday (July 16).

Of the suspects remanded for six days, two of them are PKR members.

Anwar was responding to public comments that questioned why only Azmin Ali’s accuser and five others have been arrested over the matter.
