Ex-KWAP CEO met with Najib’s aide to receive application letter for RM3.95 billion loan, with Najib’s handwritten note of approval, after office hours at hotel.

The former chief executive officer (1) of Kumpulan Wang Persaraan Diperbadankan (KWAP) told the Kuala Lumpur High Court yesterday that she had met a special officer of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak at a hotel regarding an application for a RM3.95 billion loan facility by SRC International Sdn Bhd.

Datuk Azian Mohd Noh, 66, who is now retired, said she was contacted by the office of the late Datuk Azlin Alias to meet at the lobby of the hotel in Kuala Lumpur Sentral (KL Sentral) at night.

During examination-in-chief by Deputy Public Prosecutor Datuk Ishak Mohd Yusoff, the 38th prosecution witness said she knew Azlin for two years because she had dealt with him on work matters but that was the first time they met outside office hours.

“In June 2011, I received an original letter from Azlin on the loan facility application dated June 3, 2011, at a meeting at a hotel lobby in KL Sentral. I went to the hotel lobby at night, after working hours.

“I confirm receiving the original letter from Azlin at the meeting. I was also told that the prime minister then, that is Najib, had agreed with the application proposal by SRC based on handwritten notes on the letter which Azlin said were made by Najib himself,” she said when reading out her witness statement on the 19th day trial of Najib, who is facing seven charges involving SRC funds of RM42 million.

Asked by Ishak where the original copy of the letter was now, the witness said she was not sure because the copy was given to the director of KWAP Fixed Income Department then, the late Ahmad Norhisham Hassan.

Ishak: Azlin was Najib’s special officer then. How long had Datuk known Azlin?

Azian: Maybe about two years.

Ishak: Did Datuk know the duty of Azlin as Najib’s special officer?

Azian: I did not know in detail.

Ishak: Did Datuk usually meet with Azlin after office hours? Or was that the first time?

Azian: Yes, it was the first time.

Ishak: Who planned the meeting?

Azian: I got a call through my secretary. I do not know who actually called.
