Police have identified the individuals responsible for spreading the false news.

The government has denied that the Conference of Rulers held a vote to take action against it for supposedly failing to abide by the supplementary order for former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak to serve his remaining jail sentence under house arrest.

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the police have identified the individuals responsible for spreading the false news.

“Even if there were any voting, only the reigning sovereign rulers would have the right to vote in the session.

“From the image uploaded on Sultan Ibrahim’s (Sultan Iskandar) official Facebook page regarding the recent Conference of Rulers, we can see that His Majesty was not present, which means there were no nine votes.

“Any party fabricating false news claiming that there was a 7-2 vote is also suggesting that nine rulers had voted,” he said at a post-cabinet press conference in Putrajaya today.

Fahmi was commenting on a screenshot circulating on WhatsApp, which alleged that the Conference of Rulers had conducted a vote to take action against the government for failing to implement the decree.

Elaborating, Fahmi said the spread of this false news falls under the 3Rs of race, religion, and royalty category, as it involves misinformation related to the rulers.

“The MCMC and the police have identified several individuals involved in initiating this false news, which is 3R-related.

“The MCMC and the police will take action against them and any other parties responsible for initiating or spreading false news involving the rulers,” he added.
