The police have dispelled rumours of people being killed to harvest their organs after pictures of so-called “victims” were circulated on social media and messaging apps of mutilated bodies found with organs and limbs missing.

According to Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Ramli Din, the fake news which went viral via Facebook and WhatsApp claimed that villagers in Kudat district had found two headless bodies of girls with missing internal organs and severed limbs.
The discovery was allegedly made in a mangrove swamp in Kampung Longgom, Kudat.
“This is not true and we are warning those spreading these rumours to stop or face criminal charges.

“Police are investigating the false information and will take action against the culprit(s). Those who have received the message are urged not to share with others,” Ramli said.
Besides creating fear or worry among the public, he said the dissemination of false information is against the law and would be investigated under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
” The offender can be jailed up to two years, fined, or both,” he added.
