Former Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said today gave evidence voluntarily to assist the investigation of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) into 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

Ahmad arrived at the MACC headquarters at about 9.30am in an Audi accompanied by a male family member.

Ahmad, who is the state assemblyman for Kijal, had said in May that he was prepared to give evidence on the issue.

1MDB was formerly the Terengganu Investment Authority (TIA), a sovereign wealth fund set up in 2008 aimed at spurring sustainable socio-economic development in Terengganu for the long term.

TIA was renamed 1MDB in January 2009 after it was taken over by Putrajaya.

Three years ago, Ahmad had revealed that TIA had tried to use Terengganu’s oil and gas assets as collateral, way back in 2008.

He was the thirteenth Menteri Besar of Terengganu since 2008 until May 12, 2014.

He revealed that due to numerous problems, the state government under his helm had to pull out of the deal, and this angered then prime minister Najib.

According to Ahmad, Terengganu did not suffer any losses and it succeeded in getting back its RM1 million capital.
