A political secretary to Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Minister Datuk Salahuddin Ayub has been arrested over an allegation that he received an Omega watch worth RM28,000.
The 47-year-old officer allegedly received the luxury watch from a developer.
“In return, the developer would be awarded projects under the ministry which his boss is serving,” a source was quoted as saying by The Star.
The officer was asked to explain the allegation that he had received the gift from a developer yesterday.
He was arrested at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters while his statement was being recorded.
The aide arrived at the Putrajaya Magistrate’s Court at 9.13am this morning, dressed in MACC lock-up attire.
The case is being investigated under Section16(a) (A) of the MACC Act 2009.
Salahuddin said he will not interfere with the MACC probe, before adding that his political secretary was subject to the law just like any other Malaysian.
