Haziq at HKL for Medical Exam, Expected to Be Freed on Bail Later

Police this morning took Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for an examination, said his lawyer Ramesh Sivakumar.

Offences and penalties:

  • Carnal intercourse against nature – up to 20 years’ jail, caning
  • Distributing pornographic materials – up to 3 years or fine, or both
  • Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace – up to 2 years or fine, or both
  • Improper use of network facilities or service – up to 1 year’s jail or RM50k fine, or both
  • Haziq is expected to be released on police bail after that.

His lawyer Ramesh Sivakumar said he was informed by investigating officer (IO), one Asst Supt Khairul, that Haziq, who was arrested on Friday (June 14), was brought to the Batu 9 Cheras police station earlier.

“According to the IO, he won’t be remanded and will be given police bail,” he said.

On Friday (June 14), Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Huzir Mohamed confirmed that Haziq was arrested at the international departure hall of the KLIA at around 5.30pm.

“Based on his ticket, he was to fly to Manila.

“The investigation will be conducted under Section 292 (sale of obscene material), 504 (intent to provoke breach of peace) and 377B (carnal intercourse against nature) of the Penal Code, as well as Section 233 Multimedia and Communication Act 1998,” he said in a statement.

It is unsure why Haziq was leaving for Manila.

Huzir said that under Section 377B of the Penal Code, a suspect who is found guilty may face prison up to 20 years, and caning.

Besides that, Haziq is also investigated under Section 292 of the same Code for allegedly distributing pornographic materials that carries a punishment of jail up to three years, or fine, or both.

He is also investigated under Section 504 of the same Code, for alleged “intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace”, punishable by jail up to two years, or fine, or both.

Lastly, Haziq is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, for alleged “improper use of network facilities or network service”, punishable by fine not more than RM50,000, jail not more than one year, or both.

A legal team comprising Ramesh, Sivahnanthan Ragava and Afiqah Abdul Latiff was at the hospital to meet Haziq.
