Although Datin Seri Pamela Ling was reported missing on April 9, news of her alleged abduction only surfaced recently.
Police are investigating whether Datin Seri Pamela Ling Yueh was taken by actual officers or by individuals impersonating police personnel.
This line of inquiry follows a statement by an e-hailing driver who transported Ling to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters in Putrajaya around midday on 9 April.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the authorities are aware of claims that Ling was taken by individuals wearing vests labelled “police” and that investigations are ongoing.
“Currently, all information and statements from summoned witnesses, including the Grab driver who drove Ling, are being collected.
“We are still investigating claims that the victim was taken by individuals wearing police uniforms or vests.
“The police are examining whether she was taken by actual police officers or individuals impersonating them,” he told Berita Harian today.
Razarudin said further details could not be disclosed at this stage to avoid jeopardising potential operations or the integrity of the investigation.
“I have instructed the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to assist the Kuala Lumpur police contingent in tracking down Pamela’s whereabouts.
“Bukit Aman and Kuala Lumpur police are scrutinising all facts and leads in their efforts to locate the victim,” he added.
He declined to comment on whether Ling’s disappearance was linked to her assets and wealth but did not rule out the possibility that the case was planned to implicate the MACC and the police force.
A lawyer has raised concerns about whether the MACC did enough to protect Ling, who disappeared shortly before she was scheduled to give a statement in a money laundering investigation.
