The immigration department has denied involvement in an advertisement offering marriages between foreigners and local women, pictures of which have gone viral on social media.
According to the advertisement, foreigners who are keen on such marriages must pay the women and their families RM300,000.
Immigration director-general Khairul Dzaimee Daud said a team from the department inspected the Bukit Bintang area on Tuesday and found that the notice belonged to a local man in his 40s.
He said the notice was used as promotional material to passers-by in the area.
“Initially, the man refused to cooperate but after further discussions, he eventually deleted the word ‘immigration’ from the notice, which also stated that interviews were carried out at the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia and the state Islamic religious councils,” he said when contacted.
The man also agreed to take down the notice, he added.
Khairul said he would not compromise on any dissemination of false information about the department and urged the public to stop spreading such information in order to prevent confusion.
