Jaringan Melayu Malaysia (JMM) president Datuk Azwanddin Hamzah is being investigated by the police for his inflammatory remark made during a rally in Klang yesterday.

Azwanddin’s provocative remarks:

  • Threatened to attack Klang police station
  • Used the P-word, which is deemed derogatory to Indians, on minister Waythamoorthy
  • Warned that the Malays will rise up if the government did not accede to the demands
  • Demanded police arrest Teresa Kok

Selangor deputy police chief Deputy Commissioner Datuk Ab Rashid Ab Wahab said the investigation is for criminal intimidation under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term up to two years, a fine, or both.

Yesterday, Azwanddin urged the authorities to detain those responsible for fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim’s death, failing which he threatened to storm the Klang police station.

“I would be arrested. An arrest warrant was issued against me for rallying in Putrajaya. I didn’t kill anyone. I didn’t kidnap anyone. What I did was that I stood up for Malays and Islam. Is that why they’re going to arrest me?

“I warn them to arrest the developers, the lawyers. If they didn’t, we’ll attack the Klang police station, ladies and gentlemen,” Azwanddin said.

During a rally organised by Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia (Geras) in Klang yesterday to demand justice for Adib and the sacking of Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department P Waythamoorthy, Azwanddin delivered a fiery speech during which he called the minister the P-word which is deemed derogatory to Indians.

“This is our warning, this is not Waythamoorthy, this is P****h-moorthy,” said Azwanddin as the crowd of some 2,000 people cheered him on.

“We did not change his name, P****h-moorthy,” he repeated. “We ask that P****h-moorthy resign”.

Azwanddin said this was a message that he wanted to convey to Putrajaya and warned that the Malays will rise up if the government did not accede to the demands.

Abu Bakar Mohamed, president of Geras, had disagreed with Azwanddin and said he was upset that the latter did not comply with the conditions to speak at the event.

Calling Adib a “warrior”, Azwanddin said his death had united Malays and Muslims.

“He is the reason for this rally uniting Malays and Muslims to stand in solidarity.

“Do not try to create nonsense against Malays or Muslims as we will arise and fight back,” he declared.

Azwan, in his speech, also accused Primary Industries Minister Teresa Kok of having a hand in the temple riots claiming that she had links to the developer.

He claimed that Kok has not denied the claim, despite the DAP lawmaker having already issued a denial.

“Teresa Kok has to date not dared to make a police report or make a media statement to deny the matter. Today, I demand that police arrest Teresa Kok,” he said.

Kok had last month denied rumours on social media that she was linked to the developer.

“Please stop dragging me into the fiasco of the Hindu temple in USJ. I am not related to the developer and I have nothing to do with the project,” she said.

The developer, One City Development Sdn Bhd, is owned by Bursa Malaysia-listed MCT Bhd.

MCT Bhd is in turn majority-owned by the Philippines-based Ayala Corporation.

Kok said she plans to take legal action against Azwanddin.

“I want to sue him […] I’ll see him in court. I have nothing to do with the Hindu temple case and I have nothing to do with the developer,” she was quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, Amanah’s Jasin parliamentary coordinator Khairuddin Abu Hassan urged Kok not to entertain Azwanddin.

“It is a waste of time to entertain Azwanddin’s crazy and childish antics,” Khairuddin said.

Claiming that Azwanddin was only out to seek publicity, Khairuddin said it was best for Kok to focus on her national duties.

“Kok has been proactively fighting against a number of European countries that have tried to sabotage Malaysian palm oil.

“It would be better for Kok to focus on her mission to promote palm oil in European markets. This is more important for our country,” he said.
