Barisan Nasional Youth chairman Khairy Jamaluddin has hit out at a posting on a blog-cum-news portal which he alleged had manipulated his words to try to pit him against Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
According to Khairy, the post in vharian.blogspot.my titled “Memang ada petanda Najib menyeleweng – KJ akhirnya pecah rahsia 1MDB” was slanderous in nature.
He “strongly denied” the contains contained within the blog post.
Khairy said he had never made the comments the posting had said he made, adding that the author had twisted his words during his interview with Channel News Asia (CNA).
“In the interview with CNA a few days ago, I mentioned that all the Umno and BN members, as well as their leaders, had made a mistake in that we failed to advise Najib that the people looked like rejecting the party before the 14th general election.
“That was the rejection which I was talking about…I never said that I witnessed any misappropriation in 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) as was alleged in the posting,” he said in a statement.
Khairy called on all quarters to stop writing or spreading fake news or statements regarding 1MDB.
He said the matter was under investigation, adding that as a former prime minister and a Malaysian citizen, Najib should be respected for as long as no charges had been filed against him.
This, he said, should be done as everyone was “innocent until proven guilty”.
