Shafie Apdal’s Brother Arrested over Sabah Rural Projects Graft Probe

The younger brother of Parti Warisan Sabah president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal has been arrested by the MACC over the alleged embezzlement of rural development funds meant for Sabah.

Hamid Apdal, 52, who is not a member of Warisan, showed up at the MACC office in Kota Kinabalu at 10am yesterday to give his statement.

It was reported that Hamid is a mosque volunteer and a member of Umno.

Apparently, MACC officers had gone to Hamid’s house in Taman Bersatu Putatan on late Monday night but found that he was not in at the time.

AFter an entire day’s investigation, Hamid was arrested at 9.30pm.

MACC officers also searched his house in the evening.

Hamid is expected to be brought to court today for MACC’s remand application hearing.

Shafie’s key allies, including Warisan vice president Peter Anthony and the party’s youth chief Azis Jamman have been remanded.

Two other Sabah Umno youth leaders – Tenom youth chief Jamam Jaafar and Tawau youth chief Ariffin Kassim – have also been remanded.

On Monday, a Barisan Nasional component party senator also gave his statement to MACC but was released.

It is believed that more people, including two Sabah assemblymen and another senator, will be called in to give their statements.
