Investigation papers over alleged abuse of power within Prasarana Malaysia Bhd have been submitted to the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC), says Datuk Seri Azam Baki.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner said the investigation papers were submitted to the AGC two weeks ago.
“Yes, the case (investigation) is closed…it involves a particular figure.
“We submitted the papers to the AG two weeks ago and let’s see if AG recommends anyone to be charged,” he said, adding that the investigation was made under Section 23(1) of the MACC Act for using office or position for gratification.
He said investigations into Prasarana were carried out based on reports lodged by members of the public and not based on media reports.
Azam added that the MACC had recorded statements from several individuals in the course of their investigations.
However, he did not divulge details of those who had given statements to the MACC.
It was reported that MACC had “visited” Prasarana’s head office on Jan 4 and taken several documents.
The company acknowledged the probes and said it had given its full cooperation to the MACC.
The LRT3 project started in August 2015 with an initial budget of RM10 billion to serve two million people along the Bandar Utama-Johan Setia route, before the cost escalated to a whopping RM31.65 billion.
It was among several mega infrastructure projects reviewed by the Federal Government after Pakatan Harapan came to power in May 2018.
In July 2018, LRT3 resumed with the final total cost reduced by 47% to RM16.63 billion with the turnkey model replacing the PDP model, along with reducing the number of stations, shortening station platforms, reducing the number of train sets (from 42 to 22), other than shortening them from six-car sets to three-car sets.
The project is expected to be completed in 2024.
