Social media messages that went viral in August had accused a senior police officer and his wife of corruption, and following investigations, the couple and another individual have been arrested.

  • Cop was transferred to Perak last month, ex-OCPD
  • Businesswoman gave RM70k cash gift to his daughter for wedding
  • In August, former IGP Khalid received open letter accusing the officer of receiving bribes from illegal gambling syndicates and operating a vice den

An assortment of jewellery and cash in various denominations amounting to almost RM1 million was found at the home of a senior cop in Perak.

The raid came after the officer, with the rank of ACP (Assistant Commission of Police), was arrested on Thursday evening on suspicion of corruption and abuse of power.

Along with the officer, who is also a former district police chief, his wife, aged 54, and a businesswoman, aged 34, were detained.

According to a statement from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), the 59-year-old suspect was arrested at the Perak MACC office in Ipoh at 7.30pm.

“The businesswoman is suspected have corrupt dealings with the former district police chief and is believed to have given a cash gift for his daughter’s wedding in February.

“The businesswoman is believed to have banked in RM70,000 into the account of his wife in two transactions, RM20,000 and RM50,000,” the statement said.

MACC Investigation Division senior director Datuk Simi Abdul Ghani, when contacted by Bernama, confirmed the arrests and said the trio were arrested when they came to the Perak MACC office to give their statements.

He said all three were on remand for five days from yesterday to assist investigations.

Yesterday, the suspect, who is now based at the Perak police headquarters, was brought to the Ipoh Court complex in handcuffs and MACC lock-up attire for the remand process.

The suspects would be investigated under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009.

On Aug 29, former Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar received an open letter, accusing the former OCPD of receiving bribes from illegal gambling syndicates and operating a vice den.

Perak Police Chief Datuk Hasnan Hassan had then said that police had formed an investigation team to investigate social media messages that were circulated related to corruption about the senior cop and his wife.

An investigation was also carried out by MACC shortly after the allegations went viral.

Last month, the officer was transferred to the Perak police contingent but it was unrelated to the case.
