The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has expanded its investigation into the assets of former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad to Switzerland, after earlier probes in the United Kingdom (UK).
Chief Commissioner Azam Baki stated that the commission is currently collaborating with both countries to gather information.
“We are also looking at other countries such as Switzerland. At present, we are still collaborating with UK authorities, among them the International Anti-Corruption Coordination Centre (IACCC), which is assisting us should there be any assets involving Dr Mahathir, but there are no further developments yet,” he told reporters after attending the Integrity and Leadership Day 2025 at Multimedia University today.
The IACCC, a specialised unit under the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) based in London, is assisting with the probe.
In April 2024, Azam confirmed that Dr Mahathir was among those investigated in connection with the asset declaration. Following this, his two sons were issued notices under Section 36 of the MACC Act 2009, requiring them to declare their assets within a set period.
On 21 January this year, it was reported that Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir declared assets worth about RM1 billion, while Mirzan Mahathir declared RM246.2 million.
