Putrajaya has called on whistleblower Albert Tei to file a police report and name the MACC officers who allegedly warned him against exposing the Sabah mining scandal.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform), M Kulasegaran, told Parliament today that if the claims are true, stern action will be taken.

“The allegations are very serious and totally unacceptable. No whistleblower should ever be silenced, especially not by the authorities,” he said during his winding-up speech.

Kulasegaran urged Tei to lodge a report with the police and MACC Complaints Committee, assuring that the Madani government “would never compromise on such threats”.

Earlier, Tei’s lawyer Mahajoth Singh revealed that Tei had approached MACC with information about the scandal but was warned not to proceed.

Tei has since released videos and documents alleging that nine politicians, including the Sabah assembly speaker, received bribes for mining prospecting licences.

On July 30, Tei pleaded not guilty to corruption charges in Kota Kinabalu. Assemblypersons Andi Suryady Bandy and Yusof Yacob were also charged and claimed trial.
