The Election Commission (EC) said a video making the rounds on social media showing an electoral worker being detained on suspicion of bringing out a ballot paper, was not taken during early voting yesterday.

The 55-second video showed the electoral worker arguing with a man off-camera after he was seen holding a ballot paper outside the voting area.

The EC, in a statement today, said the video was of an incident that occurred during GE13.

“The video was actually aired and disseminated through social media sites like YouTube and Facebook between May 4 and 7, 2013, and now has resurfaced again to cause disorder among the people.

“The EC hopes people do not keep believing any messages or visuals that are being spread or disseminated for sharing on social media sites,” the statement said.

According to the commission, any concerns and questions about the election can be referred directly to the EC by calling their hotline, 03-88927018.
