Zuraida Kamaruddin said the awarding of two projects to her ministry through direct negotiations was decided by then finance minister Lim Guan Eng.

In a statement, she said Lim gave the projects to Bumi Segar Indah adviser Tamrin Tun Ghafar, a staunch Pakatan Harapan supporter.

“I have investigated the matter, and now announce what I have discovered. The projects awarded (through direct negotiations) are the Taman Beringin solid waste project (RM170,294,400) and Century software accounting system (RM501,206.37).

“I now confirm that the direct negotiations were, in fact, taken up by the former finance minister himself, Lim Guan Eng.”

Yesterday, Zuraida and her ministry were attacked by PH lawmakers after her claim that she was not aware of any direct-negotiation deals pertaining to her ministry when she was part of the PH government.

Lim, at a press conference with PH MPs, questioned Zuraida over the projects, which are on a list released by Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz.

“The Taman Beringin solid waste project was initiated by my ministry. The company Bumi Segar Indah’s adviser, Tamrin Ghafar, who is a prominent PH supporter, on their behalf met Lim on November 26, 2018,” said Zuraida.

“It was at this meeting that Lim not only discussed renegotiations for the project, but also agreed to reduce the tipping fee by 10%, purportedly to save money for the government.”

She said Lim then advised Bumi Segar Indah to approach her ministry and present a formal proposal. A letter from the Finance Ministry dated February 20 last year was then given to her ministry’s secretary-general.

“Likewise, the Century software project, which involves five ministries, was also approved by the Finance Ministry.”

Yesterday, Zuraida’s aide claimed that she was totally not involved in the negotiation, approval, or discussion of the projects.

“Not one of them involved Zuraida. It was handled directly by the Finance Ministry where Lim was the minister at the time.

“I am certain that the Housing and Local Government Ministry has kept the relevant documents and has a chronology of how the projects got approval from the Finance Ministry to proceed,” Zuraida’s political secretary Nor Hizwan Ahmad said in a statement.

Hizwan also chided the Harapan politicians who attacked Zuraida on the issue, particularly Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil and Kulim-Bandar Baharu MP Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

He claimed that the opposition’s attacks were merely a cover for Harapan’s own failings.
