A 65-year-old man and 76-year-old woman allegedly got into a verbal argument over the disrespect shown to him by her children which led to her murder.
The woman is believed to have been stomped to death before her body was dumped in a drain at Kampung Pasir Panjang, Sitiawan, yesterday.
Manjung district police chief Assistant Commissioner Nor Omar Sappi in a statement said the body was found half-submerged in a drain at 2am today.
Nor Omar said a missing person’s report was lodged by the victim’s family after she did not return home from her motorcycle ride yesterday morning.
Initial investigations revealed that the woman was seen in a heated argument with and elderly fellow villager at a grocery store in the evening.
It is said the argument took place after the man had accused one of the woman’s relatives of being “disrespectful” towards him.
“The argument was witnessed by villagers. They then found her motorcycle in a drain behind the man’s house, before alerting the police at about 8pm.”
Nor Omar said the man was arrested and confessed to having beaten the woman and dumped her body in a drain.
“He carried the body in a wheelbarrow before leaving it in the drain, some 400m from his house.
“We found her body and she was pronounced dead by the forensic team at the scene. Both the victim and suspect are not related.”
The body was taken to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital for post-mortem and the man has been remanded for a week.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
