In a surprise move, Anwar named himself as the finance minister.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has named Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi from Barisan Nasional and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof from Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) as Deputy Prime Ministers I and II, respectively.

In a surprise move, Anwar also named himself as the finance minister, in what is seen as a repeat of the Najib Razak era when the prime minister also assumed the critical portfolio.

The Pakatan-led unity government will see PKR secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail helming the Home Ministry, while DAP secretary-general and Seremban MP Anthony Loke is back as transport minister. Amanah president and Kota Raja MP Mohamad Sabu will helm the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry.

The Defence Minister will be Rembau MP Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and Works Minister will be Kapit MP Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

Dr Zaliha Mustafa will be the new Health Minister while Teluk Intan MP Nga Kor Ming will be the Local Government Minister.

Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli, meanwhile, who was thought to be eyeing the finance ministry, was named the economic affairs minister, a position once held by his former arch rival in PKR, Mohamed Azmin Ali.

Tengku Zafrul Aziz also saw a return to the Cabinet as the international trade and industry minister.

The former banker was first recruited as finance minister under the Perikatan Nasional government, and failed to debut as an MP when he lost to incumbent Dzulkefly Ahmad in Kuala Selangor at the recent general election.

However, former health minister Dzulkefly was not named for any portfolio.
