A travel agency has not been able to serve a summons to Mohamed Azmin Ali’s four children for a civil suit over their failure to settle more than RM300,000 in alleged unpaid flight tickets and hotel stays.

This is despite the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on Jan 23 having allowed plaintiff YHA Travel & Tours (M) Sdn Bhd to include Farah Shazliyana, Farah Afifah, Farah Amira, and Mohamed Ameer Shazrin, as defendants.

Azmin, 55, is listed as the first defendant, with his children Farah Shazliyana, 29, Farah Afifah, 24, Farah Amira, 26, and Ameer Shazrin, 28, also listed as defendants.

YHA last November filed a suit against Azmin for failing to pay for private family holidays to Morocco, England, Indonesia, Australia, the United Arab Emirates, Switzerland, Singapore, Thailand, Spain and Greece.

YHA lawyer Adam Yap told the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court today that he is still unable to serve the writ of summons to Azmin’s children. He did not state in open court the reason the four could not be served.

This was confirmed by Azmin’s lawyer Zaid Malek, who attended the case management this morning.

“The court gave (YHA Travel) two weeks to serve the cause papers on the (four newly-added) defendants, and fixed March 25 for further case management. The cause papers need to be served personally (on each of the four defendants),” Zaid said.

With regards to whether parties have engaged in any tentative talks for a possible settlement, Zaid said his client has not given any related instruction on this.

“We wish to proceed with the legal process (of the suit),” Zaid said.

YHA is demanding that Azmin pay RM328,901, in addition to interest and other damages to be assessed.

Azmin has said he will settle any fees owed if the claims are proven true.

“I have not seen the writ of summons. I have asked my officers to look into it and check with the travel agency,” he told reporters last November.

On Dec 14 last year, it was reported that Azmin had filed a counterclaim against YHA, alleging that the travel bill suit has an ulterior motive linked to the purported sex videos involving former Santubong PKR Youth chief Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz.
