A personal disagreement could be the motive behind the murder of a woman whose body was kept in a freezer for three years.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said police are still investigating the matter to uncover the reason behind such a horrifying incident.
“The 53-year-old suspect claimed many things, including that he is the victim’s son.
“Be that as it may, we are investigating and will check his fingerprints and DNA.
“It is the same for the motive behind the murder,” he told reporters on Wednesday (Nov 13).
Comm Rusdi said a post-mortem will be conducted on Wednesday to discover the cause of death.
“The body was stored in the freezer for a long time, since 2021,” he said.
Comm Rusdi said the suspect had been remanded until Tuesday (Nov 19).
“He has no criminal record and we are still waiting for a medical report to ascertain the nature of his ailments.
“No previous reports were lodged over the victim going missing,” he said.
On Tuesday (Nov 12), the grisly find was made after police inspected a double-storey house in Taman OUG.
The suspect contacted the police and told them he was not well and that he had stuffed his mother’s body in a freezer.
It is learnt that the suspect had financial problems as well as a chronic health issue.
Comm Rusdi said the case had been classified under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and the body was sent to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre for post-mortem.
It was reported that the suspect kept to himself and never greeted his neighbours.
One neighbour who declined to be identified said the man, in his 50s, had been seen only three times in the last two weeks.
He believed the man probably went out to get food before returning home.
“He always goes out in his car,” Sinar Harian quoted the neighbour as saying on Wednesday (Nov 13).
“He doesn’t mingle with the people here,” said the neighbour, who has lived in the area for 50 years.
The suspect’s immediate neighbour told the daily that he had not seen the deceased, who was in her 80s, for some time.
Another neighbour who declined to be named said the suspect seldom kept the lights on and the house was usually dark.
“We think he suffered a stroke,” she added.
Meanwhile, the suspect who confessed to murdering his elderly mother in 2021 told police he did so to “send her to heaven”, reportedly due to a dispute over religious beliefs, according to a New Straits Times report.
According to a source, the victim was punched to death before her body was wrapped in a towel and plastic sheets and stuffed in a freezer.
The suspect reportedly revealed the murder after running low on savings and suffering from a chronic illness.
In a report yesterday, neighbours told the media they had not seen the victim since the Movement Control Order during the Covid-19 pandemic.
One neighbour, who declined to be named, said the victim would visit her son occasionally as he lived alone and was unmarried.
“I assumed she had returned to her own house,” the neighbour said.
