A 55-year-old businessman survived, with grievous injuries, after being shot seven times while driving along Jalan Besar Kuala Medang-Sungai Koyan, near Kuala Lipis, at 10pm last night.

The man was on his way home to Raub when he was waylaid by five men who shot him at close range.

The victim was first rushed to a clinic in Sungai Koyan by members of the public and was later warded at the Kuala Lipis Hospital.

“The victim was driving a Toyota Hilux when he was attacked by the men, who were in a Proton Wira,” Lipis district police chief Superintendent Azry Akmar Ayob said, the New Straits Times reported.

“The motive is still under investigation. We will record a statement from the victim as soon as he is able to provide it, and from witnesses of the incident, as well as get clues from the scene,” he said.

The matter was being investigated under Section 3 of the Firearms Act and Section 395/397 of the Penal Code.
