Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng has called for the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to impose serious reforms to root out corruption.
- Rotate officers to different divisions
- Investigate past cases, including those involving top officers, prosecute corrupt culprits
- Relook procurement process
Lim said the reforms should include revamping the Secret Societies, Gambling and Vice Division, better known as D7, The Star reported.
“All officers in the police force should be rotated to different divisions every 1 or 1 ½ years.
“If D7 is to be maintained, a total revamp is required, and the officers to be rotated.
“In fact, all the officers from all divisions must be rotated to prevent the familiarity with local “players” and the temptation of corruption,” Lim was quoted as saying.
Lim also urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to look into past cases, including those involving top officers.
“Prosecute those culprits and strike fear to those would be ‘corrupt’ officers within PDRM.
“Clear the names of those who are innocent. When investigation and justice take place, the public’s faith and trust in the police force is restored.
“However, if such complaints are not looked into, the morale of good and untainted officers and rank and file personnel will be affected gravely.”
He added that the whole procurement process by the police should also be looked into.
“Let no more wastage happen again. Contracts need to be reviewed and renegotiated if prices are above market rate.
“Any savings could be utilised to benefit the welfare of the PDRM officers and rank and file personnel,” Lim was quoted as saying.
