CMCO for Kota Kinabalu, Penampang, Putatan to Begin on Oct 7

The Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) will be enforced in Kota Kinabalu, Penampang and Putatan in Sabah from 12.01 am on Wednesday (Oct 7), said Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said that apart from curbing the spread of the Covid-19 at the three locations, it would also enable targeted active case detection to be carried out.

“Movements in and out of these three areas are prohibited and only essential services, including factories and chains related to necessary services, are allowed.

“The Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) will provide a list of services that will be needed in the affected areas,” he said in a statement on the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) today.

He said that throughout the CMCO, none is allowed to enter Sabah except for citizens of Sabah, holders of passes issued by the Sabah Immigration Department for those living in the Peninsula, Sarawak and Labuan as well as spouses of those providing essential services.

Other standard operating procedures put in place include:

  • businesses for non-essential services must be closed
  • permission to work only for essential services with police approval
  • express buses and non-stop bus services are not allowed to operate
  • night markets, tamu, wholesale markets, and farmers markets are not allowed to operate
  • daily market operations are between 6am and 2pm only
  • restaurants, eateries, grocery stores and convenience stores are allowed to operate between 6am and 6pm
  • petrol stations to operate between 6am and 6pm only
  • pharmacies and drug stores to operate from 6am to 6pm only
  • taxi/e-hailing service (maximum two passengers) and food delivery services are allowed to operate from 6am to 8pm only
  • vehicles carrying essential items are allowed in and out with the permission of police in advance
  • only two people from a house are allowed to go out for the purpose of obtaining food supplies or household necessities
  • food purchases only by way of drive-through, delivery or takeaway

The government will also close mosques, surau, non-Muslim house of worships as well as public and private higher education centres, schools, kindergartens, nurseries and day-care centres.

Ismail added that sporting and cultural activities are also not allowed during this period.

Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji Noor claimed there has been a steady spike in Sabah cases since October 1. There are 1,206 people being treated for Covid-19 in Sabah hospitals.
