Police have not found any personal belongings of murder victim Siti Nur Surya Ismail, 19, which are alleged to have been discarded in Sungai Telemong, said Hulu Terengganu District police chief, Deputy Superintendent Mohd Adli Mat Daud.
He said a bag containing the victim’s personal documents, such as the identity card, were believed to have been disposed of by the 19-year-old suspect on the same day she threw away the murder weapon, a knife, on the Telemong highway.
He said a nine-member team from the Wilayah Tiga Police Diving Service Unit mounted a diving operation last Sunday to search for the victim’s personal items.
However, they did not find any items related to the case in two-hour search, he said when contacted today.
Mohd Adli said the suspect, a Form Six student, was also taken to the search location from the Hulu Terengganu District Police Headquarters lock-up.
He said the divers encountered difficulties in their search due to strong currents caused by heavy rain over several days in the area and that the items might have been washed away.
The remand order for the suspect, who is believed to be the victim’s good friend, was extended for seven days until Nov 16 to allow further investigations into the case according to Section 302 of the Penal Code.
In the Nov 1 incident, Siti Nur Surya, who was looking after her bedridden mother suffering from stage three brain cancer, was stabbed in the living room of her house in Kampung Lubuk Batu, Telemong.
Her body was discovered by her 15-year-old sister, who returned from school at about 2.30 pm.
