Child stabbed more than 30 times, mostly on her back, with cause of death being punctured lung.

The three-year-old girl who was murdered by her uncle on Monday night in her house at Jalan Kuang Gunung 4, Kepong, was stabbed with a pair of scissors.

Sentul police chief ACP R Munusamy said the murder weapon was found outside the victim’s house.

“The murder weapon was found inside a drain outside the victim’s house while police combed the area for evidence,” he said.

He added that the suspect may have thrown it there, after attacking the child to avoid detection.

“Based on the initial post-mortem report, the victim was stabbed more than 30 times, mostly on her back. The cause of death is puncture to her lung.”

Munusamy said the suspect most likely covered the victim’s mouth before he stabbed her in the house on Monday night.

The suspect during interrogation had admitted to consuming drugs, the day before the incident.

“The suspect was staying in the same house with the victim’s mother and granny but after his mother found out that he was using drugs, she told him to move out.

“But his mother allowed him to visit off and on,” he said adding that although the suspect’s preliminary drug test result was negative, it had been sent for lab examination.

Munusamy said police had also taken a blood sample from the suspect and may send him for mental evaluation.

Initial checks showed the suspect has no prior record of being mentally unwell.

It was learnt that the suspect who was currently staying with his friends did not have a permanent job.

“The motive of the murder is still under investigation. We have also called the child’s 18-year-old mother and grandmother to come today, to record their statements,” Munusamy said.

The 21-year old suspect who was the child’s uncle was believed to have been under the influence of drugs when he stabbed his niece.

Police found drugs in the suspect’s car upon a search although he tested negative in a urine test.

The suspect was remanded for seven days from Tuesday to facilitate the investigation.

At the hospital around noon on Tuesday (June 19), about 10 to 15 members of the victim’s family were seen entering the mortuary.

Most were visibly distraught when approached by reporters.

One family member acted aggressively towards a press photographer when he tried to take photos of them.

“No photos!” she was heard shouting.

Later, a family member, who declined to be named, said they had claimed the girl’s remains.

“No more questions please,” he said before walking away.

Shortly after, a man believed to be the suspect was seen being escorted into the mortuary.
