The suspect, who is a Datuk, was speculated to contest a parliamentary seat in the general election.

It was reported that a urine test conducted on him came back positive for methamphetamine (syabu) and amphetamine.

The suspect was detained at the entertainment outlet in Jalan Imbi, Kuala Lumpur, at around 2am on Monday (April 2).

During the raid, 10 people, including two Malaysian women and two Indonesian women, were in the karaoke room. The women were believed to be employees of the karaoke joint.

The division chief was brought to the Dang Wangi police headquarters for further action.

He was later released on bail.

The Datuk, who has a string of high positions such as director of companies, is also a board member of several organisations, clubs and groups, including one that provides rehabilitation for drug abuse.

The case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has expressed regret over the arrest of the division chief.
