Bersatu chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad today said the party plans to sack president Muhyiddin Yassin, and that it would be done through the right channel.

Dr Mahathir claims that he is still the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) chairman and plans to bring a motion to sack Muhyiddin at a party meeting in the near future.

“We want to sack him, but we have to call for an MPT (supreme council meeting),” he said during a press conference at the party’s headquarters in Petaling Jaya this afternoon.

“However, he cannot meet anyone now as he is in quarantine after coming into contact with a Covid-19 patient at a meeting.”

Dr Mahathir said Muhyiddin has done several “wrong things” in the party, including appointing and ordering several party members to exceed their powers, namely organising secretary Muhammad Suhaimi Yahya, and appointing Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin as the party secretary general.

“The organising secretary has no power to sack a chairman. His duty usually involves arranging tables for a meeting and his position is not even mentioned in Bersatu’s constitution.

“I was shocked yesterday when I learned that I was sacked by the organising secretary and that’s when I realised that the power of an organising secretary exceeds the chairman,” he said in jest.

“The secretary-general of the party is still Datuk Marzuki Yahya and Muhyiddin was supposed to discuss matters with me but never did,” he added.

Dr Mahathir showed up at the party headquarters this afternoon to meet with Suhaimi, who issued a letter terminating the memberships of Dr Mahathir and four party members yesterday.

Suhaimi was, however, sacked by Marzuki for breaching work ethics and party rules.

“I came to the office today to see Suhaimi to seek some clarification, but I was told he can’t meet me.

“Later I was told that he can meet me but with Hamzah Zainuddin. However, both suddenly didn’t show up,” said Dr Mahathir.
