Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Pakatan Harapan’s prime minister-designate said in his first-ever Policy Talk broadcast ‘live’ on his official Facebook account yesterday that any action taken by the Opposition coalition should it come to power will not be driven by revenge.

He said Pakatan Harapan (PH) will not seek revenge against corrupt politicians but will instead let the law run its course.

He was responding to a comment made by Facebook user Indra, who expressed hope that PH would conduct a forensic audit on every minister and seize all assets obtained through corruption and return them to Malaysians.

He said those suspected of being corrupt will have their guilt or innocence determined by the courts in accordance with the country’s laws.

“We will respect rule of law, it is not our intention to take revenge on them, we will hold on to rule of law.

“If the law says that the people who stole money need to be brought to court, the court will then decide.

“The court will mete out the punishment, not the prime minister, not the government. It will be meted out by the court,” he said.

Mahathir also said PH would reject a corruption culture if it takes over Putrajaya.

“We will eradicate the culture of ‘cash is king’, which legitimises bribery,” he said.

He added that the first thing that PH would do would be to get back the money from 1MDB which is currently being held by the US government and banks in Singapore.
