A drunken motorist drove against traffic flow at Jalan Pintasan Kuantan here, last night, before his vehicle collided with another car, killing its driver.
The victim, identified as Irwan Herman Kamarudin, 41, died at the scene from serious head and chest injuries, Bernama reported.
Irwan Herman, who was driving a Toyota Yaris, was en route from his home in Sungai Isap Perdana to his workplace in Gabeng when his car was rammed by a Toyota C-HR being driven in a dangerous manner against traffic, at 9.20pm.
The driver of the Toyota C-HR – a 42-year-old fish wholesaler – is believed to have consumed alcohol at his friend’s house in Semambu before getting behind the wheel of his vehicle.
The drunk driver almost rammed several other vehicles – which swerved to avoid collision – starting from the Jalan Pintasan Kuantan junction in Semambu, Pahang Traffic Enforcement and Investigations Department chief Superintendent Kamarulzaman Jusoh told Bernama.
The Toyota C-HR driver suffered slight injuries in the crash and was conveyed to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) for a check-up.
He is expected to be remanded today to help in the investigation under Section 44(1)(b) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Kamarulzaman added that Irwan Herman’s body was sent to the same hospital for a Covid-19 check and post-mortem.
