The suspect arrested in the arson investigation involving Beruas MP Ngeh Koo Ham’s residence in Ayer Tawar will be released on police bail today.
Manjung district police chief Mohamed Nordin Abdullah, in a statement last night, said the man could become a witness.
“The investigation papers have been referred to the Perak deputy public prosecutor and received instruction to release him on police bail while the man will become a witness in the case if needed,” he added.
On Tuesday, police arrested a man in Shah Alam and obtained a remand order to detain the 30-year-old suspect to carry out investigations under Section 435 of the Penal Code for allegedly throwing a Molotov cocktail into Ngeh’s residence on Jan 10.
Yesterday morning, the Magistrate’s Court in Seri Manjung allowed police to remand the suspect for another day until today.
In the incident last Wednesday, a Molotov cocktail was believed to have been thrown into Ngeh’s residence, resulting in a fire that destroyed one car and damaged two others.
