Following a video that was circulated on WhatsApp in Melaka of a man savagely beaten and hacked by three men, police arrested four people in connection with the incident.
Melaka Tengah police chief Assistant Commissioner Afzanizar Ahmad said the assault occurred at an entertainment outlet in Melaka Raya along Jalan Melaka Raya 21, the New Straits Times reported.
“We received a report of a seriously injured man covered in blood at the Melaka Hospital’s police guard post. He was brought there by his friend from Melaka Raya.
“The man was immediately warded at the hospital’s red zone,” Afzanizar said.
He said initial investigations showed that there was a misunderstanding between a group of intoxicated men.
“A fight then broke out with the victim most heavily injured.
“The tussle first occurred in the pub and it continued outside the pub as the victim tried to escape,” he said.
According to Afzanizar, the victim was a 29-year-old man from Semabok.
“The victim sustained injuries to his head and broke his right hand,” he added.
He revealed that four men, aged between 24 and 44, who were called in to the state police headquarters in Bukit Beruang, were arrested and being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for possessing weapons at a riot.
The 51-second video clip showed a man in a black shirt and jeans lying in the middle of the road being beaten, kicked and slashed by three men.
The victim was bleeding from his head and hands as he tried to dodge the attacks from the men who took turns to assault him.
One of the men repeatedly struck him with a stick, another assailant hacked him several times with a long knife, and the third attacker kicked the back of the victim’s head time and again.
Throughout the incident, several other men stood by and watched the attack.
When they were done assaulting the victim, the attackers and the other men left the scene while the bloodied victim hobbled away.
The footage appeared to have been recorded by an onlooker in a car. At the beginning of the clip, a woman with a foreign accent was heard saying, “Why police no come?”
She also yelped and screamed as she watched the ferocious attack.
