Four people, two men and two women, who were arrested in connection with the kidnapping of a 6-year-old Albertine Leo Jia Hui on Saturday, were remanded for four days beginning today.
The suspects arrived in court at around 8.45am on Tuesday (July 23) under heavy police escort.
They wore orange and purple police lockup attire for the remand process under Section 365 of the Penal Code for kidnapping.
Three of the suspects were arrested at about 1.30pm in Gelang Patah, Iskandar Puteri yesterday, while the fourth suspect, a woman, was arrested late last night.
Leo went missing at about 8.30pm on Saturday while at the Eco Galleria business centre, Iskandar Puteri near Johor Baru.
Earlier, Johor police announced that their counterpart in Selangor had found Leo in a low-cost hotel in Batang Kali.
Johor Police Chief M Kumar said in a press conference that she was found safe early this morning, and a male suspect aged 31 who was found at the scene has also been arrested.
Kumar said Leo had been sent to a hospital for health inspection but had seemed fine.
Yesterday, Johor police said they reclassified the case as kidnapping under Section 365 of the Penal Code for kidnapping or abducting with the intent to secretly and wrongfully confine a person.
Kumar updated today that the case is also being investigated under Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 since Leo was found alone with the suspect.
He also updated that two men and two women in their 40s have been arrested in Iskandar Puteri to assist in the investigation.
All five suspects are locals and have no relations with the victim.
Kumar said the arrest was made based on public information as well as police intelligence.
The vehicle used by the suspect to abduct the victim has also been seized.
