Woman claimed she was unaware of being raped and only realised it when she woke up.
A 31-year-old man assaulted an e-hailing driver for allegedly raping his wife while she was sleeping in his car.
The incident happened at Taman Kesidang, Melaka, last week, said Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Afzanizar Ahmad.
He said the 23-year-old driver had earlier sent the 30-year-old woman back home from the Melaka Sentral Bus Terminal after her night shift ended at 10.30pm.
“However, upon reaching her house, the passenger refused to alight from the car and wanted to go to another destination,” he said.
Afzanizar said the woman claimed she then dozed off in the car and was raped.
“But she told the police that she was unaware of being raped and only realised it when she woke up,” he said.
The woman then sent her husband an SMS, claiming that the driver raped her.
Afzanizar said the furious husband took an iron rod and assaulted the driver when he arrived at the couple’s home.
The driver suffered head and bodily injuries.
The woman’s 31-year-old husband and the driver were arrested to facilitate police investigation under Section 376 and Section 324 of the Penal Code.
“Urine tests on the woman’s husband turned out positive. Checks also revealed that he has a criminal record of three drug-related offences,” he said.
