The alleged author of the ‘CIA letter’ is expected to hold a press conference to explain the “real situation”.

Former director-general of Malaysian External Intelligence Organisation (MEIO) Datuk Hasanah Abdul Hamid will file a police report over news articles that claimed she had sent a letter to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).

In a statement yesterday, Hasanah said she was advised by her lawyers to make a report over the matter.

However, there were no details as to where and when the report would be lodged.

“I will also hold a press conference to explain the real situation,” she said through her lawyer Datuk Shaharudin Ali yesterday.

Once again, there were no details as to where and when this would be done.

Several screenshots of the purported letter were made viral recently, where Hasanah allegedly wrote to CIA director Gina Haspel pitching former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak as a United States ally.

The letter was allegedly written on May 4, just a week before GE14.

Najib had said he was not aware of the letter nor did he instruct Hasanah to write it.

He also said such matters should have remained as government secrets.

“This is a government secret. If we reveal it, it means nothing can be considered a government secret,” he had said.

Meanwhile, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng had called for an investigation into the leaked letter.

Lim said there were many questions surrounding the issuance of such a letter as it concerned Malaysia’s sovereignty.

“Was this letter sent to other countries? Are there any more letters?” Lim asked.

He said that there should be a “comprehensive and extensive” investigation into the matter.
