A police escort of Johor Regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim who allegedly assaulted a deaf e-hailing driver has faced disciplinary action within the force.

On top of that, Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain told Malay daily Berita Harian that the officer was investigated under the Penal Code.

“The officer was investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for causing voluntary hurt,” he was quoted as saying.

Razarudin added that the disciplinary action was taken after the police’s integrity and standard compliance department wrapped up its internal investigation into the matter last June.

The top cop did not specify the nature of the reprimand.

Razarudin also said on June 5 that the investigation papers have been forwarded to the Attorney-General’s Chambers for further action.

Meanwhile, the e-hailing driver revealed a dash-cam clip of the incident that occurred in May.

Ong Ing Keong, 48, teared up as the clip showed the bodyguard punching him just as his passengers entered the car.

His lawyer, N Surendran, expressed frustration over authorities’ inaction, saying that it has been almost two and half months since the incident happened.

“I don’t know why, as the evidence is clear. No one has been brought to justice,” he said in a press conference today.
