Four Indian MPs from MIC, DAP, and PKR have condemned the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) for its decision not to prosecute Muslim preachers Zamri Vinoth and Firdaus Wong.

In a rare show of unity, MIC deputy president and Tapah MP M Saravanan, Klang MP V Ganabatirau (DAP), and PKR MPs P Prabakaran (Batu) and S Kesavan (Sungai Siput) held a joint press conference in Parliament to voice their dissatisfaction.

Rejecting the AGC’s explanation of “insufficient evidence”, the MPs pointed out that numerous police reports had been filed and cited video clips, public remarks, and social media content they believe constitute clear evidence.

“These materials have caused public unease and contain elements of insult and incitement touching on racial and religious sensitivities.

“This decision is disheartening and gives the impression of selective treatment, undermining justice and equality under the law,” they said.

They stressed that the law must be enforced equally and firmly, regardless of who commits the offence. Any act that insults, incites hatred, or promotes division on racial or religious grounds must be addressed decisively.

Calling on the AGC to review its decision objectively based on the evidence, they said public confidence in the justice system must be upheld.

Saravanan also criticised Law and Institutional Reform Minister Azalina Othman Said for the manner in which the matter was communicated.

“We are part of the unity government and support the Madani administration, but we face growing frustration from the Indian community.

“Ministers must be sensitive to such issues and consult with us to understand the context better. Sudden announcements like this have only deepened dissatisfaction,” he said.

On Tuesday, Azalina told DAP’s RSN Rayer in a written reply that the AGC had concluded there was no basis for prosecution after reviewing police investigation papers.

However, she noted that criminal cases have no time limits and said the case could be reopened if new developments arise.
