The second phase of MRT 1 is almost ready.
Reportedly scheduled to be launched on Jul 17, the second phase of the Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit 1 (MRT 1) is almost ready.
Prasarana Malaysia Bhd president and group chief executive officer Datuk Seri Azmi Aziz told reporters yesterday that the train service from Semantan to Kajang is in its final stages of testing and that it would be fully operational on Jul 17.
“We are currently making final preparations and running test runs on the trains and this is needed to ensure that there will be no problems with the train operation after the launch of the line,” he said.
Phase one of the MRT 1 began operations on Dec 16 last year. The launching of the second phase will complete the 51km Sungai Buloh-Kajang (SBK) line.
Both phases of the service are expected to benefit more than 500,000 passengers daily.
Other projects to boost the public transport system in the Klang Valley include the Light Rail Transit (LRT) extension, the High Speed Rail project and the East Coast Rail Link.
