The Health Ministry will use Pfizer vaccines as booster doses for those over the age of 60 years old and were fully vaccinated with the Sinovac version, said Khairy Jamaluddin.
The health minister said the World Health Organisation (WHO) has approved of the so-called “Mix and Match” approach to vaccination in order to generate stronger immune response.
“The Sinovac recipients (only those who have completed the three-month period post-jab) can obtain their booster doses starting tomorrow throughout the country.
“The booster doses will be given free and on a voluntary process under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK).
“These will be done by the private medical practitioners under ProtectHealth Corporation Sdn Bhd,” Khairy said.
He added that those who qualify for the booster doses would be notified via the MySejahtera application as well as SMS.
He revealed that as of October 19, 47,728 individuals have already received Covid-19 booster shots.
He said that the booster shot programme, which started on October 13, had begun administering booster doses to frontliners, those aged above 60 and individuals with comorbidities.
