Four students accused of involvement in the gang rape of a 15-year-old girl at a secondary school in Alor Gajah, Malacca, have been expelled.
According to the New Straits Times, Education director-general Azam Ahmad announced the expulsion at an event in Putrajaya earlier today.
The decision follows public outrage after Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the students would still be permitted to sit for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations later this year.
Yesterday, Fadhlina stated that the ministry would ensure the four SPM candidates — two accused of committing the assault and two others alleged to have acted as lookouts and recorded the incident — would not be deprived of their education.
