Man, 52, Arrested for Insulting Hindus on FB

A 52-year-old man has been detained for posting lewd and insulting remarks on the Hindu religion, says Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun.

The Inspector-General of Police said the man, with the Facebook username Zamri Bin Abd Razak was arrested on Monday (March 11).

He is being investigated under Section 298A of the Penal Code and Section 223 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.

Section 298A of the Penal Code relates to the offence of causing religious unrest and is punishable by between two and five years’ imprisonment.

The IGP advised the public not to misuse social media or other forms of communication to upload provocative postings that touched on religion and racial sensitivities.

“Such acts will spark tensions among the people of various races and religions, thus it must be stopped at once.

“We will take stern action against any party who still commit such offensive acts,” the IGP said.

Police will seek to remand the man today.
