The body of the victim, 28-year-old S Letchumi, was discovered by a 60-year-old man out collecting mushrooms at about 1pm in Taman Permai.

The victim from Bandar Baru Kampar was found with head injuries.

Initial police investigations revealed that the victim was the man’s lover.

Kampar police chief, Supt Ng Kong Soon said police managed to track down the male suspect at his house on Friday night while the wife was arrested when she turned up at the Kampar police station at about midnight. Both the suspects, aged 46, have been remanded until Dec 7.

“We believe the husband had a relationship with the victim. The victim was his girlfriend.

“We are in the midst of investigating the motive for the killing. Based on the post-mortem report, the cause of death was due to blunt force trauma.

“There were signs the victim was repeatedly struck on the head with a blunt object and that she was involved in a struggle (with her assailant),” Ng said in a statement yesterday.

He added that there were no signs she was raped.

Police have yet to find any weapons but they recovered the victim’s motorcycle in front of a restaurant in Bandar Baru Kampar after finding a key and helmet at the estate.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries a mandatory death sentence.
