Former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin has been appointed as the chairman of the National Recovery Council.
Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali said the Cabinet had decided on this on Wednesday (Sept 1) and the appointment has been presented to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
“This appointment was made based on the government’s confidence in Muhyiddin’s capability to spearhead the country’s recovery strategy in order to achieve the best economic impact and improve the people’s livelihood which has been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said in a statement on Saturday (Aug 4).
He also said the government congratulated the former prime minister on his appointment.
The council was formed in July to replace the special Cabinet committee that was tasked with managing the national recovery plan.
Muhyiddin resigned as prime minister last month.
