Apply from tomorrow for inter-state travel between May 1-3.
Those stuck in their hometowns since the movement control order (MCO) began will have to go through a multi-stage application process before they are allowed to travel home.
Federal CID director Comm Datuk Huzir Mohamed said applications to travel home could be made using the Gerak Malaysia app or at the nearest police station.
“Those eligible can apply to travel from Sunday (April 26),” he said in a statement on Saturday (April 25).
However, he said their application must be updated on Wednesday (April 29) to confirm the travel destination.
“They will be able to check the status of their application on Friday (May 1) via the app.
“The time period for permitted interstate travel is from May 1 to May 3 and all motorists must plan their trips accordingly,” he said.
He added that road users were required to plan their journey according to the stipulated conditions during the period.
He said those using the North South Expressway (NSE) must remember a few important details.
“No restaurants or food stalls will be open at all rest areas along the NSE.
“All surau will be closed and no group prayer activities will be allowed at rest areas, including inside buildings, open areas or car parks.
“Only toilet facilities will be allowed to operate, and car parks will only allow motorists to rest inside their vehicles.
“They will not be allowed to exit their vehicles except to go to the toilet,” he said, adding that petrol stations along the highway would be allowed to operate from 6am to noon.
He reminded motorists that no group activities will be permitted.
“Those who do not have access to the app can make written requests for travel at their nearest police station, but priority would be given to users of the Gerak Malaysia app,” said Comm Huzir.
Yesterday, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said students who are stuck in campus will be sent home in stages from next Monday.
This arrangement will be handled by the government and will only apply to students who are returning to green zones.
