Mohammed Hayssam, 34, had lymphoma and died after becoming infected with Covid-19.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mohammed Hayssam Musa on August 24. Hayssam is survived by his wife and daughter,”

“We ask that the privacy of the family be respected at this most difficult time. May Allah bless his soul and place him among the pious and faithful,” read a brief statement from Musa’s office.

Hayssam’s father-in-law, Kawang assemblyman and Yayasan Sabah director Gulam Haidar Khan Bahadar, was quoted saying that Hayssam’s cancer prognosis had improved but his health was complicated by Covid-19 infection.

Hayssam married Ghulam’s daughter, Fiti Hana, in January 2017.

Hayssam was one of Musa’s four children. His elder brother, Yamani Hafez, is the Bersatu MP for Sipitang.

Hayssam passed away at the Gleneagles Hospital in Kota Kinabalu. The Health Department is arranging for his funeral at the family’s hometown in Sabah’s interior of Bingkor in the Keningau district.
