Mydin hypermarket boss Ameer Ali Mydin has taken Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh to task for “exploiting” the issue concerning the socks bearing the word Allah.

“Why is he still kicking up a fuss?

“Political parties should distance themselves from 3R (race, religion, royalty) issues and should not pour oil on the flames,” Ameer told Free Malaysia Today.

Ameer said Akmal’s call for the boycotting of the KK Mart convenience store chain, where the controversial socks were found, would affect investor confidence and the livelihood of workers – most of whom are Malay Muslims.

“Both KK Mart and the vendor have apologised. What else do you expect them to do?” Ameer, who is also the president of the Bumiputera Retailers Association, asked.

While acknowledging the issue was a serious matter, Ameer said there was no need for it to be escalated, especially for political mileage.
